{"id":4675,"date":"2018-09-14T16:18:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T16:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/?p=4675"},"modified":"2018-10-14T11:17:19","modified_gmt":"2018-10-14T11:17:19","slug":"georges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/en\/georges\/","title":{"rendered":"Georges is in Andalusia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/georges-malaga-12sep18-1.jpg\" alt=\"Georges F03 in Malaga\" width=\"1000\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/georges-malaga-12sep18-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/georges-malaga-12sep18-1-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We received some great news about <em>Georges<\/em> (F03), which has cheered us up immensely, since sadly <em>Mirage<\/em> (F08) has not recovered from the accident that she had\u00a0the day after her release. <em>Georges<\/em> has safely reached Andalusia, where he was seen on September 12 by two local birders at the mouth of the river Guadalhorce in Malaga!<\/p>\n<p>Born in eastern Germany in a family of three, he was translocated on June 28 to Switzerland, where he was released on July 23. He was named after the cross-like design on his head, in tribute to Georges Lacroix (meaning \u201cthe cross\u201d in French), a French conservation pioneer who was instrumental in the\u00a0successful Bearded Vulture reintroduction in the Alps of Haute-Savoie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur\u201d <em>Georges<\/em> was one of the first of this year\u2019s birds to venture out to explore the area around the release site, and he was even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rZvz1G6mbLU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filmed<\/a> on August 13 at the Fanel nature reserve, practicing diving. He left on migration on September 4, so it took him eight days at the most to reach Malaga (about 1,450 km away from Bellechasse in a straight line).<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to Juan Ramirez and Antonio Tamayo for their\u00a0observation and for giving us the photo above.
