However, these devices do not prevent raptors from landing on pylons, and we have even observed some of our young Ospreys\u00a0settling on top of the spikes!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4080\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pique-oiseux-gone-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pique-oiseux-gone-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mission accomplished on this 28 m tall pylon, all the bird spikes are gone!\" width=\"200\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pique-oiseux-gone-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pique-oiseux-gone-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.balbuzards.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pique-oiseux-gone-1.jpg 1038w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4080\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mission accomplished on this 28 m tall pylon, all the bird spikes are gone!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unfortunately, there have been quite a few cases recorded where birds accidentally get entangled or even impale themselves on\u00a0these spikes. We still remember last summer when one of our young Ospreys, 19 days after he had been released, inadvertently flew in thick fog straight into one of these spikes, and did not survive the accident. In the meantime, the electricity company Groupe-E agreed, at our request, to remove these structures from all of the pylons near the release area. On June 13<sup>th<\/sup> they temporarily shut off the power in order to safely allow their team to undertake this task.
